Geometric quilt pattern with echo quilting by Zen Chic and Blockheads 2018 - Block 33

Capturing the colors of summer in a minimalist quilt design

Delight reminds me of a late summer morning, when the first warm sunrays in my garden conjure a golden light and I look forward to a breakfast with a hot cup of cappuccino under the tree. This is something like a delight for me, a pure joy.

The fabrics are a mix of colored blenders and light and grey low-volume companions, which add texture and interest to the bright colors.

The setting with its wide negative space looks clean and minimalist and the wide background allows for showcasing interesting quilting. I wanted to compliment the modern geometric look with the quilting lines, so I went for an echo quilting inside the diamond shapes and straight parallel lines in the background - which is as minimalist as the complete setting.

The diamonds themselves are a bit trickier to sew than HSTs, because they do not have a 45° angle anymore. The pattern includes detailed instructions on how to master block units and how to make matching points easier. I recommend the Rectangle Triangles Ruler from Bloc Loc (It's not necessary, more optional, but an option I love). It makes for these accurate matching points you wanna get in sewing the units together. There is a large and a small one available, for our quilt you would go with the large one.

BLOCK 33
STAR POWER

Last week we worked on Block 32. This week we move on with Block 33 in our Moda Blockheads 2018 (Round 2) quilt along project. It is hosted by Stacy Iest Hsu, who puts a spotlight on a classical eight-point star in the center of this block, aptly named Star Power.

The power of this star lies in the fabric placement: Depending on your choices and placement of light and dark fabrics, it can really make an impact or become quite flat. So maybe you sketch out some fabric ideas first before you even start sewing. And see, what a difference it can make if you set the spotlight onto the V-shapes or the background cross.
