Beyond Embroidery – Creative BERNINA Techniques with Brigitte Heitland (The Quilt Crossing, Boise)

  • The Quilt Crossing 10959 West Fairview Avenue Boise, ID, 83713 Vereinigte Staaten (map)

What happens when you stop thinking of machine embroidery simply as decoration — and start using it as a design tool?

In this hands-on BERNINA Club workshop, fabric designer Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic takes you beyond traditional embroidery and into the creative possibilities of modern embroidery technology. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll create a modern quilted zipper pouch that doubles as our playground for exploring creative embroidery techniques and see how Brigitte combines BERNINA features with her own graphic Zen Chic design language.

We’ll experiment with Jumbo Stitch, build continuous designs with Seamless Repeats, and explore precise motif placement. Brigitte will also demonstrate 3-Point Placement with the laser on the B 790 Ultra, showing how embroidery can be positioned exactly where you want it.

And because this is Zen Chic, we won’t be practicing with just any motifs: Brigitte’s own Zen Chic embroidery designs will become part of the project and show how familiar graphic elements can take on a completely new life in thread.

Highlights:

• Explore Jumbo Stitch as a bold graphic design element
• Create continuous designs using Seamless Repeats
• Learn creative ways to position embroidery on fabric
• See 3-Point Placement with laser demonstrated on the B 790 Ultra
• Work with original Zen Chic embroidery motifs
• Build a project that lets you experiment with techniques

Who is this class for?

This workshop is designed especially for members of The Quilt Crossing’s BERNINA Club who want to discover more of the creative potential in their embroidery machines. It’s a day for experimenting, asking questions, trying something new, and looking at embroidery through the eyes of a fabric and quilt designer.

Because available features vary between BERNINA models, exact machine requirements and the detailed supply list will be coordinated with The Quilt Crossing and provided to registered participants closer to the workshop date.

The Setting

This is a small, hands-on workshop with a maximum of 10 participants, giving us plenty of opportunity to work together, experiment, and discuss how the techniques can be translated into your own projects.
