July 3, 2024 Brigitte Heitland

Week 5 of Dots on Point Quilt Sew Along: Assembling the Quilt

Hello, fellow quilters! We've reached Week 5, the final week of our Dots on Point Quilt Sew Along, and it's time to assemble the quilt top! This week, we're joining pieces into rows and rows into the complete quilt. I've got some valuable tips and tricks to help you with this process. After that, we'll dive into the world of quilting and binding. I can't wait to share my favorite techniques to ensure your quilt top looks impeccable. This part of the journey is all about bringing our fabulous blocks together and transforming them into a stunning quilt. It's a perfect blend of precision, creativity, and a little zen moment. So, are you ready to wrap up this wonderful journey? Let's do this!

If you're scratching your head over any sewing conundrums, why not head over to our Zen Chic Facebook group? It's a fabulous spot for some friendly advice and chat. Remember, you can share your journey on Instagram with #DotsOnPointQAL and stand a chance to win our weekly giveaways (more details at the end of this post)! So, are you all geared up for the grand finale?

Your Assignment for Week 5: Assemble Your Quilt

Here's your mission for the week:

Greetings, fellow quilters! Prepare to embark on Week 5, the final week of our enjoyable Dots on Point Quilt Sew Along! This week, we're assembling the quilt top by joining pieces into rows and then putting those rows together to complete the quilt.

Don't fret, I've prepared a comprehensive YouTube tutorial to guide you every step of the way. We also have some invaluable tips on quilting and binding to ensure a smooth and beautiful finish. Let's make the most of this last week of our Sew Along!. For all those important details like exact measurements, your pattern is your best friend.

Are you excited to create a quilt masterpiece? Let's get those sewing machines buzzing!

Is it possible to do the quilting on my domestic machine?

You bet! This cozy quilt is approximately 64" x 64", a size that's perfect for working with on a home sewing machine. A super easy quilting method you might want to try is a crosshatch pattern, or stitching in the ditch between the quilt blocks. Trust me, it's as simple as pie and you can do it on your home sewing machine without any prior marking. Plus, this lovely quilting method keeps the quilt nice and fluffy - just what you need for a snuggly TV-watching blanket!

Which quilting motif would you recommend for longarm quilting?

For your beautiful quilt, I'd suggest a sleek, modern edge-to-edge pantograph. Let's keep it light and airy, not too dense, especially since the dots reinforced with fusible web add a touch of firmness. The other elements like batting and quilting should play nicely with this. A fluffy and thick poly batting could be your best friend, and for the quilting, a generous, not too dense motif like this one here called CITRUS, which I fell in love with for my original quilt.

The cherry on top? She's sponsoring our prize this week, a voucher for 50 EUR that you can use with her quilting services. Believe me, you'll be over the moon with the finished result.

I always entrust my quilts to the fabulous Rachel Hauser at StitchedInColor, all the way from my corner of Europe.

She's exceptional at what she does, and the value for money is unbeatable. Plus, she's a joy to work with - I tell her what I envision, and she always delivers something that leaves me smiling. Need advice on the right motif? Rachel's got your back.

I could need some help with the binding

No worries at all! We've put together a detailed YouTube tutorial just for you. In it, I share three different binding methods. So, whether you're a perfectionist or someone who prefers a more relaxed approach, rest assured, we've got something for everyone!

And the winner of our last week’s prize is….
