How to sew Flying Geese units with the No-Waste-Method, a 20% discount, and Blockheads, Block 37

A golden oldie in a new light

This week we have a new YouTube tutorial in our blog series. It features a pattern I designed back in 2017, that became very popular, called Twisted Geese. Due to its popularity, It was quickly sold out. I’m putting the spotlight on the Twisted Geese pattern again but with a more current fabric collection and this pattern is called Red Geese, the second edition. Appropriate, don’t you think?

In the video, I will show you different variations of the outcome of the quilt, depending on which fabric choices you make. Because as you well know, different fabrics give different outcomes, which gives different feelings, right? And that becomes very clear in the tutorial.

For this quilt, we are going to save in two ways. The first one is a product called Layer Cake. This product saves you time because it is a precut format from Moda and it has the benefit that the fabrics are already cut in 10” x 10” squares. You get the complete collection with little snippets on a budget. Time saved, who wouldn’t want that?!

The second way to save is the no-waste Flying Geese technique, which you will learn all about in the YouTube tutorial. We’re going to save time as well as fabrics.

A little side note, I am from a part of Germany by the name of The Black Forrest. The people here are called “Swabians” and they are always kidded about their aim of saving something, like (mostly) money or time. In other words, to be efficient and frugal. As you can imagine, you can find a little bit of efficiency and frugalness in my work. It’s simply in my genes!

Twisted Geese is made from the FRAGILE fabrics, meanwhile sold out, unfortunately. So Red Geese could be a good alternative. It is made from the collection JUST RED, which is still available. A good replacement for the FRAGILE fabrics would be QUOTATION, which will hit stores in November 2020.

Featuring this pattern, we offer a discount, for the next 5 days only (from September 23 to September 27 of 2020).

Buy the Red Geese pattern (which is the same as Twisted Geese, only the cover differs) and get 20% off using coupon code RED GEESE.

Now how is that for being frugal?!

FREE QUILT ALONG BLOCKHEADS 2020
BLOCK #37
FIXER UPPER

Welcome to the next block for the Moda Blockhead 3 sew-along. I hope you’re still with us and love making the blocks for this round in 2020, so you end up with an awesome quilt to enjoy once it’s all finished.

This week’s block for Moda Blockheads is hosted by Vanessa Goertzen. She is one of the younger Moda designers in the 30+ generation. She has a fresh and modern approach to quilting. Vanessa uses fabrics that are full of color that definitely makes you happy even on the gloomy days of Fall.

She called her block Fixer Upper. I’m not exactly sure what she had in mind with that title, but we will figure that out when we read her blog post, no doubt.

A little fun fact about me, as a studied interior designer, I’m an avid fan of the Fixer Upper tv-series and I love to watch it. So this block is right up my alley.

Now go ahead, download this charming block, find your fabrics, and start quilting!

Until next week...
