A mini-vacation and Moda Blockheads, Block 40

My grandson “digs” his new sweater

Last week, I was on a little mini-vacation. I visited my daughter and her family. Being able to see her in person again was great. And especially, giving cuddles to my grandson felt so nice.

We don’t live near each other but we do facetime a lot. My grandson of 1,5 years old probably thinks his Grannie lives in an iPhone or iPad, haha. I often talk to him through facetime and he knows now how he can see and talk to me. So he lets his parents know that he wants to “make a facetime call” and have a little chat with his Grannie. Isn’t he just adorable?

What I love to do is sewing for my grandson and surprising him with little gifts. Which grandmother doesn’t, right? That’s the prerogative of being a Grannie in the first place!

The latest thing I made for him is this cute fall sweater. His big love these days are excavators. When I taught a class recently at Farbenrausch, I found some sweater fabric with lots of excavators on it. Perfect for my little grandson. I couldn’t help but buy it and make him a cute kid sweater.

To make it even more fun, I appliqued a yellow excavator on the front. For the sleeves, I just used the backside of the fabric to have a little contrast. I think it looks pretty darn cute on him, what do you think?

FREE QUILT ALONG BLOCKHEADS 2020
BLOCK #40
STRINGS

TIt’s time again for the next block in the Moda Blockheads. How is your sample quilt coming along? Are you ready for a new block for Moda’s free quilt along?

This week for Blockheads 2020, we have a block called Strings. This block is designed by Janet Clare. Janet is living in the UK with her family. Even her husband Tony is in the quilting business with her. He basically runs their business and is called according to Janet (and I quote) “affectionately known as ‘Chief of Everything’ because that’s what he does!” Now isn’t that great, being able to work together like that?

Why not show Janet in our Facebook group what your block with her pattern looks like? It’s so much fun how every block seems different with different fabrics and colors used. So join in the fun and show us your block!

Make Some Cute Pincushions with a Handful of Scraps

When you keep making quilts, you keep ending up with lots of scraps. If you have only a handful of them, then these pincushions are cute, easy, and quick items to make. I found a free YouTube tutorial on how to make them. These pincushions are great to have in your own sewing space or to give away to quilting and sewing friends. You can even use the tutorial to make pumpkins to decorate your home for fall season.
